Motherhood + Wellness: Mom-Founded Brands Share Their Secrets

In honor of Mother’s Day, we’re shining a light on six inspiring mom-founded wellness brands that we’re proud to carry at Sage + Sound. In candid reflections, each of these founders — all devoted mothers — shares one part of her non-negotiable wellness routine as a mom and how motherhood has reshaped her relationship with personal well-being. These heartfelt insights offer a warm, reflective look at how mothers nurture their wellness while caring for their families, illustrating the powerful bond between motherhood and self-care. Mother’s Day is the perfect time to celebrate these trailblazing women and the wisdom they share on balancing motherhood and wellness.

Chelsea Leyland, Looni

What part of your wellness routine feels most non-negotiable as a mom?

There are a few rituals that feel foundational for me: starting my day with hot water and lemon, doing my best to prioritize rest and sleep hygiene, cooking at least one nourishing, organic meal for my family each day ideally with protein, trying to move my body daily and prioritize yoga or pilates at least four times a week—and of course, daily chocolate. These small but consistent practices help me stay grounded amidst the beautiful chaos of motherhood.

How has motherhood reshaped your relationship with wellness?

Motherhood has completely redefined my understanding of wellness. It’s shifted from a checklist of external habits to a more internal, intuitive practice. I’ve come to realize that wellness is deeply rooted in how we move through life—how we speak to ourselves, how much grace we allow ourselves. As an overachiever, I’ve had to learn that doing less, softening, and slowing down are sometimes the most potent acts of self-care. It’s less about productivity and more about presence.

How has motherhood reshaped your relationship with wellness?

“I feel like I spent 31 years fine-tuning a morning routine and now, “ha!” Morning routine! What a joke. I do think I feel so much more gratitude for my body, which needs caring for.”

Erin Kleinberg, Sidia

What part of your wellness routine feels most non-negotiable as a mom?

My morning ritual, even just 10 quiet minutes to myself, is non-negotiable. It’s the anchor that helps me move through the chaos with intention. In particular, my face guasha routine, my body brushing, and my SIDIA shower routine keep me alive! If I have time, I'll add in my Theraface tool for some extra TLC!

How has motherhood reshaped your relationship with wellness?

Motherhood hasn’t made me let go of self-care—it’s made me fiercely protect it. I’ve realized that when I’m taking care of myself, everything else flows better, and I can be present in the different facets of my life. I cherish my wellness routine as if it were gold!!

How has motherhood reshaped your relationship with wellness?

Motherhood has taught me to be more flexible and forgiving with myself and to redefine wellness as anything that brings me back to the center.  Before becoming a mom, it was more about my own personal goals of eating well and staying active.  Now, it’s a daily necessity that I take time for myself to reset throughout the day, even with such unpredictable schedules.  It forces you to be more organized and intentional with your time.  For me, it’s about being consistent over being perfect.

What part of your wellness routine feels most non-negotiable as a mom?

It’s a combo of movement, eating consciously, and taking care of my body - that’s my trifecta.  When I do those three things, I'm connected to my physical body, where I find grounding. I think motherhood is the Olympics of ‘staying grounded.’ I find it relatively easy to breathe, regulate my emotions, and be aware of my reactivity when solo. Mothering young children puts all of that to the test. A little movement, good food, and self-care help me show up how I want to for myself and my family.

How has motherhood reshaped your relationship with wellness?

I’ve become less attached to a particular routine. It wasn’t easy, but motherhood was a forcing function for helping me learn to go with the flow. Overall, it has helped me simplify many aspects of my life and forced me to take time for myself. You have to plan when little humans surround you. Because of that, I actually feel so much more balanced than when I had a lot more time for myself.
